Class Kick off Downtown

Leadership Rochester’s 2022 Signature Program is in full swing. Our Opening Retreat and Get Grounded Days were atop One East Ave in the Penthouse now run by Max Gordon. It was the perfect location for the class to meet and connect with each other. They took a deep dive into the history of Rochester, presented by Dana Miller, now Commissioner of Neighborhood & Business Development for the city of Rochester and former LR alum & board chair. The Penthouse was also a prime spot to for the class to get their bearings prior to their walking tour with Caitlin Meives, Director of Preservation for the Landmark Society of Western NY, and another LR alum.

December brought us to the Aquinas Institute for Education Day where the class heard from Rochester City School District Superintendent, Lesli Myers-Small EdD, and students from the RCSD Student Congress and Teen Empowerment. The class also heard from Rochester Teachers Association President Adam Urbanski, the longest standing leader in the district.  The differing views presented provided a deeper view of the complexities facing the district.  Later in the day class member also heard from Provosts of RIT Ellen Granberg Phd and newly apponted Provost at MCC, Kimm McKinsey Maybry.  Each shared insights on the current complexities and opportunities facing educators in higher education locally amidst COVID-19.
